Supporters of the Liverpool branch of Fathers 4 Justice turned out on South Shore Promenade at Blackpool, opposite the highest part of the Big One, with banners, for a family day out in the autumn sunshine. Police turned out in even greater numbers. We counted about 10 police vehicles at the scene. There was also a noticeable police presence outside many other venues in Blackpool, including Blackpool Tower. We can't quite understand why it takes so many police on the ground. Batman was hardly likely to throw himself off the Big One, and there were no signs of any trouble or disturbance. We can understand police going to talk to Batman to ask him to come down, but it hardly needed another dozen or more to control the peaceful crowds of holidaymakers taking in the scene.
Supporters across the road seemed in a holiday mood, with numerous children doing cartwheels on roly-polies on the grassy embankment opposite.
